The 8-Fiddy is throwing an intermittent “ Service” light. It will come on about 1 out of 4 times Im driving, then when I shut the car off and restart its gone.
Im thinking about buying an OBD-II bluetooth code reader. What does the Oppo hive mind recommend? And features I should be looking out for specifically?

I’ve never had an issue with my Veepe
ak one and use it with the Torque Pro app on Android. Works great.

I’d just buy some cheap one on Amazon. There are a ton of options made by various fly-by-night Chinese companies, but Amazon has good return policies so if you get a dud, just send it back and try something else. On Android you can use Torque as the software (I wouldn’t touch whatever software they ship with). I would recommend BT over wifi, but beyond that, just get what’s cheap and has adequate reviews.
This is what I have (it was $14 years ago) , but it’s not sold anymore: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A1O72TW

Get the ELM 327 Mini. Make sure the seller is reputable. Spend $15 and like $5 for the Torque app on Android.

The main question is whether your phone runs iOS or Android.

I second the ELM 327 Mini, very cheap and have never had a problem with it. Torque Pro is also an amazing app that will show you a LOT of info (if your car is willing to give it)

That looks like a fun rental. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

I’m going to agree on that as well. If you iPhone instead of Android, just get a Fire 8HD while you are on Amazon. I recently sent one to my Dad (who iPhones) to troubleshoot an intermittent problem the dealer couldn’t catch. About $80 all in. Less than any diagnostic fee. Torque Lite gets a code reader for free.

I use an older version of this:

I use the Torque app to read codes. The app is certainly set up more for the boy racer crowd, due to its focus on performance, but it reads codes and gives me the stats i want. I just used it to read a misfire last week.

Torque is very nice, and if you get a new phone you can even transfer your $5 license to your new phone. The only complaint I’ve got is that it is tricky to get it to work with multiple ELM327 Bluetooth devices. I’ve got a
blue one as shown in Sammyno55's post in this thread.
A new ELM327 was my first purchase when I b
ought a “new” (used) car. I bought both of my ELM327s from eBay for less than $10 including shipping.
One thing I should mention is that if you leave an
ELM327 plugged into your OBDII port and you don’t drive that car for a couple
weeks it may
drain the battery, so if you don’t
drive the car frequently, unplug the device when you’re not using it.

I leave mine plugged in 24/7 even in our -40 winters. It's never been an issue. And the license is attached to your Google account. I have it downloaded on a few devices.
